DataTrail teams

Jeff Leek is the Director of the DataTrail program. He is also the chief data science officer at Fred Hutchinson cancer program.

Michael Rosenblum is the Baltimore regional director of the DataTrail program. He is a professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Liz Torres-Brown is the Baltimore region Program Administrator for DataTrail. She helps support and guide the students in their journeys toward becoming data scientists. 

Davon Person is the Programmer and Data specialist for DataTrail. He also is a tutor for the Baltimore region DataTrail chapter. He is a mentor through the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Candace Savonen is the Curriculum Lead for DataTrail. She works to upkeep, create, and maintain the DataTrail program materials.

Allissa Dillman instructs and tutors the DataTrail scholars and helps curate and craft teaching guides for the DataTrail curriculum.

Former members of the DataTrail team

Ashley Johnson was the former Program Administrator for DataTrail. She trailblazed a lot of the crucial administrative pieces of the program.

Simone Sawyer was an excellent Scholar Advocate for DataTrail and is working on completing her PhD. She helped support the DataTrail scholars and graduates so they can pursue their careers!

Ed Sabatino was responsible for the job development component of DataTrail.

Project origins

DataTrail was originally formed as Chromebook Data Science, and then Cloud Based Data Science, by Shannon Ellis, Aboozar Hadavand, and Jeff Leek in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  Shannon, Aboozar, and Jeff were driven to create a curriculum and supporting training program that would allow members of underserved communities to enter the field of data science.
